LETTER TO GINA CHRISTINA PIAZZA

(in lieu of a formal obituary)

Dearest Gina,

You joined our family in 2004 in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, China. You arrived with physical and mental health challenges, and the biggest smile indicating these challenges were of no consequence. You hugged Emma (adopted from China two years earlier) and you two became instant best friends and close sisters.

Growing up, you enjoyed swimming and gymnastics, played piano and tennis, and painted in water colors. Graduating high school, you found your niche in home health care, helping the vulnerable in our community. You filled our lives with rescue animals, and added care and love to the lives of your animals.

Gina, we are so proud of what you accomplished in your short life, despite your sometimes unbearable challenges. We are grateful that God shared you with us. You made us better parents!

We will gather at a Mass to celebrate you on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 1:00pm, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1201 Satre Street, Eugene, Oregon. A reception following the Mass will be at your “forever” home, 33650 McKenzie View Drive, Eugene, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers for your funeral, donations will be made in your name to the St. Paul Capital Campaign so that children can continue to go to school in a safe and welcoming environment.
