Jane Carolyn Smith

Jul 22, 1936 — Jun 3, 2026

Jane Carolyn Smith, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2026. She was 89 years old.

Jane was born on July 22, 1936, in Honolulu, HI to USN Lt. Cmdr. John C. Partch and his wife, Elizabeth. As a young girl in Hawaii, Jane heard the Japanese fighter planes overhead on their way to attack Pearl Harbor.

After graduating with honors from La Jolla High School, Jane attended Pomona College before transferring and graduating from the University of California at Berkeley. Soon after, she married Ben Smith (1936-2012) of Fairfield, CA and the couple settled in San Jose. She worked as an elementary school teacher until becoming a full-time mother to four sons: Jeff (Cathy), Dave (Tammy), Scott (Debbie Williamson Smith) and Doug (Angie Ponso).

In 1987, the family relocated to Eugene, where they owned and operated the Round Table and Ben’s Roundhouse Pizza restaurants for 16 years. Jane was also a member of the Masonic Order, serving both as Honored Queen of Jobs Daughters in High School and twice as Worthy Matron of the Meridian Chapter of Eastern Star in Eugene.

Jane had the warmest heart and the kindest eyes. She loved family vacations, the ocean and a good mystery. But most of all, she was absolutely devoted to her family and said in the end that her greatest accomplishment was raising four loyal and kind boys. She is survived by her sons, her 7 grandchildren and her 7 great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at 11:00 am on July 18, 2026, at the Coburg Commons.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
