Joeann Revis Murphy
Nov 21, 1932 — Oct 25, 2026
Joeann was born November 21, 1932 in Echo, a small town in Eastern Oregon. Her parents, Joseph Correa and Sarah Correa Espinola, were originally from Portugal. She was the 4th girl in the family and later she had two younger brothers.
She grew up on a small farm in Stanfield, Oregon, the same town where she graduated from high school in 1950.
She followed her dream to study to be a teacher at Eastern Oregon College, in LaGrande. During this time, she met and married a classmate, Paul Revis. While Paul was in the army in Korea, her first child was born. Shortly after, she returned to college, graduated in 1956, and started her 30-year career. She and Paul were educators, teaching in several Eastern Oregon schools such as John Day, Pilot Rock, and Lakeview.
In 1965, they moved to Eugene, where she continued teaching elementary school until retiring after three decades. Paul died unexpectedly in 1981. She kept in touch with many of her teacher friends and students.
Joeann met and married Lou Murphy in 1987, moving to Grants Pass, where they lived for many years. Joeann and Lou enjoyed years of traveling, visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, the Holy Land and many European countries. Some of her favorite places out of her travels were Portugal and the Azores Islands, where both her parents and stepfather were from, and Ireland, where Lou's grandparents were from.
She was always proud of her Portuguese heritage and organized the first of many family reunions. She and Lou attended many for both the Portuguese and Murphy families.
Her favorite pass time was keeping in contact with family and friends through letters, cards, and phone calls. Friends were something Joeann cherished, keeping in touch with those from every community she has lived in, even her high school and college friends. She was proud to remain in contact with her friends' children once the parent had passed.
She said many times that she was blessed with two wonderful husbands and two loving families. She loved her Revis and Murphy families and enjoyed the activities of the grand and great grandchildren. It is a given that each and every one of them received advice from her at some point.
Joeann was a lifetime member of the Catholic church, and her faith meant a lot to her.
After the death of Lou in 2019, she moved back to Eugene. Her Revis children – Sheri, Russ, Scott, and Karen – and the Murphy children – Kathy, Mike, Maureen, and Rob – survive her; she is also survived by the blessing of many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
