Linda Joyce Sumpter

Linda Joyce Sumpter, age 75, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away on February 20, 2026, following complications from heart failure.

Linda was born on May 23, 1950, in San Gabriel, CA to Edward and Rosemary Freiholtz.

On May 4, 1972, Linda married the love of her life, James Glen Sumpter, in Las Vegas, NV then began their life together in Decatur, IL. Together they shared 50 years of marriage enjoying their life and home in Eugene, OR for more than 45 years.

Linda had a deep appreciation for gardening and took joy in her beautiful flowerbeds and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing and loved spending time with her family and playing with her great-grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her daughters, Jaime Lynn Sumpter and Janessa Renee Ketchum of Eugene, OR, 2 grandsons Darius and Ryan Sumpter and 6 cherished great-grandchildren, Elijah, Oaklee, Amara, Gracyn, Weston and Hudson Sumpter. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Noel Freiholtz of Hazel Green, AL.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her brother Conrad and her parents.

She will be missed dearly and remembered for her kindness toward others, funny demeanor, love of Jesus and her joy of living everyday of life to its fullest.

Linda was laid to rest in the care of our Lord on February 27th at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene, OR. If desired, recommended memorial contributions which were especially important to Linda were Turning Point Ministries with Dr. David Jeremiah, American Legion and the American Veterans Center.
