Dr. Sterling Ellsworth
Apr 25, 1933 — Oct 2, 2026
Sterling Grant Ellsworth was born on April 25, 1933, to Adelaide Grant Ellsworth and German Smith Ellsworth. He married his "Soul Mate" Helen Annette Tracer in 1983. Over the course of a remarkable life, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and clinical psychologist whose life's work was dedicated to helping others discover something precious within themselves.
For more than six decades, Dr. Ellsworth sat with people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His wisdom became a lighthouse for countless souls struggling on life's turbulent seas. He has a profound belief that beneath the wounds, fears, defenses, and expectations we accumulate through life, there remains something untouched, the innocent spirit we were born with, still within us, still deserving of love, and still capable of giving and receiving love.
Sterling understood that life's tempestuous seas often force us to seek safety within shells of our own making. Those shells may protect us from pain, but they can also hide us from the joy, connection, and freedom we came here to experience. Much of his life's work was devoted to assisting people gently lay those protections aside and rediscover the person who had been there all along.
He taught that the journey inward was worth the time, courage, and sacrificed it required. He encouraged others to search for the authentic spirit within, to chart their own course, and ultimately to discover a deeper and more enduring safety in the love of God.
Yet Sterling's greatest legacy cannot be measured simply in years of practice, professional accomplishments, or the number of people he counseled. It lives in the lives that changed because he listened. It lives in families that healed, people who learned to forgive themselves, and individuals who came to see themselves with greater compassion because, perhaps for the first time, someone helped them recognize their own worth.
To those who knew and loved him, Sterling was far more than Dr. Ellsworth. He was Dad, Grandpa, husband, mentor, teacher, and friend. His wisdom will remain in the stories he told, the lessons he taught, the people he loved, and the countless lives that will continue carrying something of him forward.
The lighthouse does not travel with the ships it guides. It simply stands, offering its light so others may find their way. Sterling spent a lifetime offering that light.
And although his earthly life has ended, the light he shared remains, in his family, in those he assisted, and in every person who learned through him to look within and discover that the treasure they had been searching for was there all along.
