Ellen Eichmiller, 82, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Ellen was born on September 10, 1943, in Monroe, Wisconsin, to Chester “Guy” and Irene (née Holmen) Steig. She married the love ofher life, Paul Eichmiller, on December 7, 1963, and together they made their home in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Ellen spent much of her working life as a secretary at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where she formed many lasting friendships and memories. Ellen cherished her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with those closest to her. She was known for her love of golf and enjoyed the many friendships she made throughout the years. Wednesday dinners with her close friends were a special tradition that she looked forward to and held dear. Above all, Ellen loved spending time with her family. Her granddaughters were truly the lights of her life. She loved Liliana,  Rylee, and Ella dearly and treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. They brought her tremendous joy and filled her lifewith countless special memories that her family will cherish forever.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Paul; her son, Eric (Jessica); and her beloved granddaughters, Liliana (Elijah) Scheel, Rylee, and Ella. She is also survived by her brother, Gaylen Steig, as well as extended family members and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester “Guy” Steig and Irene (John) Stout; her sister, Joy (Wayne) Wiedenhoeft; her brothers, GordonSteig and Ken Steig; and her special friend and son-like companion, Mike “Mikey” Zielinski.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassion and care provided by UW Health University Hospital in Madison and Rainbow Hospice Care of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, during Ellen’s final days.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Ellen’s life. Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater has been entrusted with Ellen’s arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ellen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First English Lutheran Church in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Ellen will be deeply missed by her husband, son, granddaughters, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her love, laughter, friendships, and the memories she created with those closest to her will remain in their hearts forever.
