Alma Jean Kirk, 81, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully at Bright Assisted Living in Windsor, CO on November 30, 2025, with her family by her side.

Alma was born on February 18, 1944, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Peter and Leah (Weimer) Lauck. She grew up with strong family values and carried those qualities of kindness, generosity, and resilience throughout her life.

Alma graduated from Wiggins High School in 1962. She attended Colorado State College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, CO earning a bachelor’s degree in Speech Correction in 1966 and a master’s degree in Deaf Education in 1967.

Meeting her husband, Larry J. Kirk, her senior year in college, they married on August 28, 1966. Larry’s job as a microbiologist for the Center for Disease Control took them to Fort Collins where they raised their three sons.

In addition to raising her sons Alma worked as a speech correction teacher two different times for Weld County BOCES schools and for Greeley-Evans School District 6. She served as a Poudre Valley School District Home School teacher for several years. Finding her true calling, Alma pursued preschool teacher and director credentials through Aims Community College. She directed and taught at several preschools in Loveland and Fort Collins, retiring from “Open Arms Preschool” at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fort Collins. Before and during retirement Alma taught a prenatal water aerobics class at the Fort Collins Senior Center.

Alma was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins serving on council, participating in church dramas and as a worship leader, and playing in the handbell choir.

She is survived by her sons Timothy and Jeanetta Kirk, Bret and Michelle Kirk, and Benjamin Kirk; her sisters Betty Baker, Esther (David) Ellis, and Mary Lauck, a niece and four nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jaden Parker and Taylor Kirk, Kara Factor, Roman Kirk, Noah Kirk and a large, loving family who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry J. Kirk, her parents and many deeply loved aunts and uncles whom she now joins in eternal rest.

Alma will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
