Jerry Cranford
Nov 11, 1947 — Oct 5, 2026
Jerry Cranford, 78, a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, veteran, and faithful friend, passed away on October 5, 2026, in Colorado. He leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, service, and treasured memories.
Born appropriately on Veterans Day, November 11, 1947, Jerry lived a life marked by service to both his country and the people he loved. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era and later continued his military service in the United States Navy. He carried great pride in his service to his country throughout his life.
Jerry graduated from Turner County High School in Ashburn, Georgia, and continued his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. Gifted in computers and technology, he built a career as a computer programmer, working with several colleges and helping keep their computer systems running.
Jerry grew up in the country, and that country boy never really left him. He loved his Western clothes and cowboy boots and was known for a smile big enough to light up any room. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures most—spending time with family, watching movies, laughing, visiting, and simply being together.
Jerry was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. His faith was reflected not only in what he believed but also in the way he cared for others.
Family was at the center of Jerry’s life. He was a constant presence in the lives of his nieces and nephews from the time they were children, and he continued that same love and devotion as their children—and eventually their grandchildren—came along. They always knew Uncle Jerry was there for them.
Jerry was especially devoted to his sister, Melba, and faithfully helped care for her and her husband, Thomas. He spent most of his life—and especially the final 30 years—with Melba and her daughters, remaining a loving and steady presence in their lives. He often reminded the girls, “Make sure your Mother has what she needs.” That simple reminder said so much about Jerry’s heart: He looked after the people he loved.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cricket Lynn Cranford; his parents, Demetrius and Ruth Stone Cranford; his stepmother, Guy Nell Cranford; his stepdaughter, Sonya Lynn; and his brother-in-law, Thomas York, Melba’s husband.
He is survived by his stepson, Steve Lynn; his sister, Melba York; his brother, Terry Cranford, and Terry’s wife, Cindy; his sister, Gloria Anderson, and Gloria’s husband, Roy; and his brother, William Oliver, and William’s wife, Myra.
He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews, including Natalie and Kerry Underwood, Anita and James Everest, Tabitha and Vaughn Beason, Natosha and William Komornik, Terry and Samantha Cranford, Andy and Kim Oliver, Amy and Michael Marchant, Kim and Roger Russell, Cagney Noland, and Courtney Noland. He is also survived by the next generation of his family, including his great-nieces and great-nephews Kirsten and Austin McAlpin, Gannon and Jo-Leigh Underwood, and Thomas James Everest, as well as his precious great-great-niece, Kerrigan McAlpin, whose newest pictures he always wanted to see. He is also survived by other beloved great nieces & nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
To his family, Jerry was so much more than just a family member; he was part of the fabric of their lives. He was there for holidays, adventures, ordinary afternoons, laughter, hard times, and everything in between. His nieces and nephews grew up knowing they had an uncle who loved them and would always be there for them, and their children and grandchildren were blessed with that same steadfast love.
Jerry’s life was one of service—to his country, to his family, and to the Lord he loved. He will be remembered for his cowboy boots, his generous heart, his devotion to family, and especially that wonderful smile that could brighten any room.
Though his family will miss him more than words can express, they find comfort in knowing that Jerry’s faith has become sight, his body is healed and that he has been reunited with those he loved who went before him, including his beloved Cricket.
His was a life well lived, a family well loved, and a legacy that will continue for generations.
A memorial service honoring Jerry’s life will be held at a later date, with arrangements to be announced.
