Jose Hernandez

July 23, 1951 – October 4, 2026

Jose Hernandez was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather whose love and generosity meant so much to our family.

He and his beloved wife Lucy, shared more than 30 years together. Their love was the kind you hope to find bringing out the best in one another and enduring through life’s hardest moments. Jose was Catholic, and their shared love for Jesus gave them strength and comfort throughout their life together.

Jose embraced Lucy’s children as his own and that same love extended to every grandchild. He helped provide for and raise them always giving whatever he could.

He was hardworking and generous. Although he spoke limited English he understood plenty and that never stopped him from talking a little smack and making us laugh. He was also a wonderful cook. His menudo and red chili were the best. We will always treasure his humor, his laughter, and the countless memories we made together.

A collision caused by a drunk driver more than a decade ago left Jose unable to work and living with lasting pain. Lucy became his caregiver and their provider faithfully standing beside him. Even when his body could no longer do what it once had he kept trying. His determination, his love for our family, and his will to keep going stayed with him through the very end.

We find comfort in knowing Jose is now at peace in the arms of Jesus, free from the pain he endured far too long and reunited with his mom & dad. We also find peace knowing he is now with the dogs that went before him that he loved so dearly. His beloved Kike remains beside Lucy keeping her company as she learns to navigate life without him.

Jose leaves behind his beautiful reina, Lucy. Lucy wasn’t just part of his world, she was his entire world. Jose is also survived by his children Rose married to Andy, Lori married to Gerald, Alfredo married to Alicia, Cheva, Tony, Jesse & Joe and the rest of his family that will miss him deeply.

His absence leaves a void words cannot fill but we know his love remains with us.

To us he was the best man. We thank God for his life and for the blessing of being loved by him. We are forever grateful for the privilege and honor of calling him ours.
