Kathryn Marie Witman (Weitzel)

Jul 26, 1953 — Jul 19, 2026

Kathy Weitzel, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away peacefully, on July 19, 2026, with her family by her side.

Kathy was born in Greeley, Colorado to Fred and Jetta Weitzel.

Kathy’s early years were spent in Greeley, where she attended various schools and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1971.

After graduation, Kathy worked for Ted and Chet's Grocery Store for several years. Also in 1971, Kathy met George Deering, though circumstances weren’t quite right at the time, she was quite smitten with George. Eventually the stars lined up and Kathy and George were able to build a great relationship that saw them married in Cheyenne, WY on February 11th, 1975. After a celebration, the two of them built a wonderful family together that included the addition of a step son, Joel Deering, along with the birth of her daughter Elizabeth (1976), and son Ben (1978).

In 1982, Kathy and the family moved from Greeley to the F Quarter Circle Ranch North of Roggen, CO. It was there that Kathy learned about what it meant to be a rancher’s wife. From checking windmills and fixing fence, to chopping ice from water tanks in the winter, and managing calving chores, Kathy learned it all and worked her fingers to the bone. All the while, managing 2 young children and caring for the home and everything that goes along with it.

After 6 years of ranch life circumstances led the family back to Evans, CO, where Kathy continued to work for Toddy's Market in the deli. In 1990, Kathy opened an in-house daycare where she was able to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful families.

As it can sometimes be in life, things didn’t work out for Kathy and George, and they divorced in 1995. This led Kathy back to Toddy’s, where she spent the next several years working in the meat department.

In 1998, Kathy met Mike Witman, and on October 13th, 2000 they were wed in Ft. Collins, CO. Step sons Doug Witman and Creg Witman (d. 2023) were welcome additions to Kathy’s life. Kathy and Mike enjoyed traveling, trips to Lake McConaughy evolved to boating from coast to coast, with trips to Hawaii, Canada and many other places. A special relationship with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Squadron came from all of the travels.

Kathy and Mike divorced in 2018, and Kathy began to enjoy the greatest joy of her life, her grandchildren. The time spent, and memories made with her grandchildren were certainly the most cherished of Kathy’s life.

Kathy’s knack for crafting, and her creativity were second to none; so many special creations. From Christmas ornaments to shadow boxes, special plaques, and even birthday cards, Kathy could do it all.

Kathy fought bravely with several ailments over the years, and had the true strength of a fighter. She will be dearly missed by those who know and love her. Kathy’s spirit will forever live on through her children and grandchildren, who are all so proud to call her “Mom" and “Grandma"
