Lance Jeffrey Hays

Lance Jeffrey Hays, 54, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and those who knew him best. Lance was a devoted son, father, grandad, brother, and friend whose quiet presence, quick humor, and love for life left a lasting impact on everyone around him.

Born to Jay and Lajune Hays, Lance carried a deep love for his family throughout his life. He was the proud father of Garrett Jay Hays and Jacelyn Amalie Hays, and a loving grandad to Kamden Jaymes Hays, who brought him immense joy and pride. Whether it was through his jokes, advice, shared love of sports, or simply being there when it mattered most, Lance showed his love in ways that will never be forgotten.

Lance was known for his sense of humor — often quiet at first, but always ready with a perfectly timed joke or comment that could make an entire room laugh. He had a passion for sports and could always be found cheering on his beloved CSU Rams and CU Buffs. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and enjoyed the simple moments spent with family, friends, and good music. Rock music was always playing somewhere nearby, adding to the soundtrack of a life well lived.

Those who knew Lance will remember his loyalty, his calm nature, and the way he made people feel comfortable just by being around him. He had a way of connecting with people without needing to say much, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Though his passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness, his memory will continue to live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave so freely. His family finds comfort in knowing that the moments they shared with him — from game days to fishing trips to everyday conversations — will remain treasured forever.

Lance is survived by his children, Garrett Jay Hays and Jacelyn Amalie Hays; his grandson, Kamden Jaymes Hays; his parents, Jay and Lajune Hays; his brother Tim Hays and sister-in-law Jennifer Hays, along with their children Carter Hays and Sidney Hays; his brother Josh Gardner and sister-in-law Michelle Gardner, along with their children Cameron Gardner and Kaylee Gardner; as well as many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

In honoring Lance, remember him with laughter, a favorite rock song turned up loud, a day spent outdoors, or by cheering a little harder for the Rams and Buffs — just the way he would have wanted.
