Rex Jesse Ortgiesen, 80, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, in Greeley, Colorado. 

Rex was born on July 14, 1946, in Dixon, Illinois, to Jesse Jason Ortgiesen and Dallas Pearl (Staley) Ortgiesen.  Rex attended High School in Dixon Illinois. He joined the Navy in 1966.  He served until 1970, during which time he served on a repair ship and learned to work with boilers.  He also developed an increased interest in the Bible at this time.  After leaving the navy, he settled in Greeley Colorado, where he studied God's Word further, and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1973.  Later that same year he married Carol jean Gibson in Greeley Colorado.  They had 2 sons, Jesse William Ortgiesen and Jamin Willis Ortgiesen.  He worked for Kodak Colorado Division as an Engineer in the Utilities Department, using skills he had learned in the Navy, until his retirement in 1998.  He is remembered for his Bible knowledge and his many jokes.

Rex is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ortgiesen; along with his two sons, one grandchild, Isaiah Ortgiesen, one Uncle Gary Ortgiesen, a sister Beverly Adamson and 17 nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by a grandson Noah Ortgiesen, his parents, a brother-in-law, Terry Adamson, seven Uncles and two Aunts.
