Mary Ann Aloysia O’Melia Mone

August 3, 1938 – September 17, 2026

Mary Ann Aloysia O’Melia Mone, lovingly known as “Mamie,” 88, of Crockett, California, peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 17, 2026.

Every day was a beautiful day when Mamie was near—and you had better be prepared to start it by singing the “Good Morning” song with her.

Mamie was born on August 3, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, to Florence Rita Huss O’Melia and Bartholomew Anthony O’Melia. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School in 1956.

From an early age, Mamie grew up in a family full of personality, laughter, and mischief. Along with her siblings Jack, Jim, and Doris, she was a proud member of the “I Must Obey Club”—a childhood title that captured the humor and spirit of the O’Melia household. That sense of fun, family, and togetherness stayed with Mamie throughout her life. Years later, she became a founding member of the “Outlaws Club,” a name she gave to the family members who married into the Mone family. In true Mamie fashion, she made sure the “Outlaws” knew they were every bit as loved, welcomed, and important as those who shared the family name. For Mamie, family was never just about blood—it was about making sure everyone had a place at the table and knew they belonged.

Mamie married the love of her life, the late John Gregory Mone, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage and built a remarkable family. Together, they welcomed nine children: Doreen Palucci (Matt), Kathleen Murphy (Mark), James Mone, John Mone, Daniel Mone (Madonna), MaryAnne Peters (Wendell), Kevin Mone (Wendy), Brian Mone, and Edward Mone.

More than anything, Mamie was happiest surrounded by her family. Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In addition to her nine children, she leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews whom she adored. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Mathias E. Mone and Nelson “Butch” Brown.

Mamie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Gregory Mone; her parents, Florence and Bartholomew James O’Melia; her siblings, Marguerite, James, Doris, and John; and her siblings through marriage, MaryAnn “Cookie” Walsh, Patricia Clare Brown, and David Mone.

Mamie had a way of bringing joy and color wherever she went. No matter the occasion, she somehow always managed to put on her red lipstick, and she delighted in wearing fun outfits and hats that were every bit as spirited as she was. Her sense of fun, unmistakable smile, boundless energy, and enormous capacity for love were infectious. She made people smile simply by being herself.

Mamie was also a proud and active member of her community. She volunteered at the Pinole, Rodeo and Crockett Senior Centers, where she generously prepared tax returns for others for many years. Her life was marked by her willingness to help others and the happiness she brought to those fortunate enough to know her.

In their final years, Mamie and John were blessed to be lovingly cared for by their daughter, MaryAnne, and son-in-law, Wendell Peters, whose devotion allowed them to spend those years surrounded by the comfort, dignity, and love of family.

Mamie leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a family who will carry her love, traditions, laughter, colorful spirit, and “Good Morning” song with them for generations to come.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 9:30am at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church, 1940 S. Prospect Ave, Redondo Beach, CA with a reception following at the home of James Mone in Torrance, CA.
