Adelene Mixon Willis

Adelene Mixon Willis, 97, of Haines City, Florida, passed away at Spring Lakes Rehabilitation in Winter Haven on September 11th, 2026. She was a kind, warm, loving and welcoming person. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

Adelene was born April 25, 1929 in Wrightsville, Georgia. She was the middle child of 3 daughters. At the age of 16 in 1945, she married her high school sweetheart Gilbert (19). They lived in Haines City, built their home and raised their son, Richard, born in 1952.

Adelene was a loving wife, mother and sister who enjoyed gardening, painting, baking and decorating cakes, singing in the choir and making floral arrangements for Westside Baptist Church where she was a charter member.

She worked as a Pediatric nurse for Dr. LaRue in Winter Haven for many years. She loved working as a nurse of children.

She welcomed family and friends into her home. When we would visit her, she always had a dessert to offer us with a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream (this was the only kind she would buy).

Adelene leaves behind her 2 nephews Patrick Dennis and wife Sandy, and daughter Lydia; John Dennis and wife Julia; and niece Janice Sarver and sons Mark Jr., Chris and Joshua. In death Adelene is reunited with her parents William and Mattie: her husband Gilbert; son Richard; 2 infant boys, Gregory and Gilbert Jr.; sisters, Nancy Mixon (Ed) Johnson, Carolyn Mixon (Charles) Dennis and (Galen) Holtrey and nephew Mark Johnson Sr.

A Celebration of Life for Adelene will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 at 11:30 - 12:30 for visitation and 12:30 for the service at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Her final resting place will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Winter Haven, FL.
