Harry Joseph Brey
Mar 3, 1929 — Mar 7, 2026
Harry Joseph Brey, 97, of Davenport, FL passed away on March 7, 2026 at Certus of Mount Dora. He was born on March 3, 1929 in Packerton, PA to Edward and Edith Mertz Brey. Harry was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served for two years, including one year in foreign sea service, obtaining the rank of PFC before being honorably discharged. During his service he received several decorations, including the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. He later moved to Florida in 2000 from Emmaus, PA. Harry worked for 47 years for Western Electric/AT&T Bell Labs, retiring in 1993, and he was of the Methodist faith.
Harry loved his cars, swimming, and going to Cocoa Beach. He enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and football, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles. Harry also loved playing Blackjack. He was tough with a heart of gold—outgoing, supportive, loving, and generous—and he was known for speaking his mind with no filter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Edith Brey; his wife, Nancy Brey; his brother, Edward Brey; and his sister, Betty Ampietro. Harry leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Tione (Mark) Kalafian; his son, Scott (Lori) Brey; five grandchildren, Dillon, Mark, Isabella, Jonathan, and Rachel; and five great grandchildren, Julia, Vincent, Evelyn, Giorgio, and Matteo.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm, following a military service, all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. The family will be receiving family and friends beginning at 1:00 pm.
