Horace Fletcher

Nov 10, 1930 — Apr 2, 2026

Horace Lloyd Fletcher, 95, a lifelong resident of Haines City, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 2nd, 2026. He was born on November 10th, 1930, to Melvin and Allie McClendon Fletcher. Horace discovered his love for music at the young age of six, when he began playing the guitar, a passion that would remain with him throughout his life. A gifted and dedicated musician, he also played the harmonica and even built a banjo from scratch, complete with a mother-of-pearl plate on the front. He was especially proud of being a Florida State Fiddle Champion, earning the title two years back-to-back during the 1960s bluegrass era. Horace was also a devoted member of NorthRidge Church in Haines City.

Horace found great joy in music, whittling, and reading the Bible, often keeping and studying multiple versions throughout the years. He was a gifted individual, not only musically but also in mathematics, with a natural talent for numbers. Known for his warm and sociable nature, Horace never met a stranger—he enjoyed engaging in conversation, sharing knowledge, and learning new things. In his younger years, he loved spending time at the local library, where he could further explore his many interests.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Tommie Kate Clarke Fletcher. Horace leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Teresa Tang and her husband, Tak-Sing; his brother, Kenneth Fletcher; first cousins, Norma Norman and Sue Conoly; his cherished grandchildren, Lai-Yan Faller and her husband, Jesse, and Andrew Tang and fiancée, Jorden Weidner; as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Judah and Rocky Faller, and Kylo and Arya Tang.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 10:00 am at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, Florida.
