Jim Richardson
August 8, 1956 — May 17, 2026
Jim Richardson's story began in Medina, Ohio, where he was born on August 8,1956. From the very beginning, Jim loved anything with an engine - cars, trucks, dirt-track racers and anything that rumbled, roared, or could be taken apart and put back together again.
He graduated from Elyria High School in 1974. Jim hired into General Motors in 1977, and at the same time worked as a mechanic for the Black Bull alcohol dragster team, a role that fueled his passion for racing even more.
In 1985 he transferred to the Mansfield plant, where he became known for his skill in truck repair and his easygoing way with coworkers. Jim dedicated 32 years to GM before retiring in 2008.
Jim's life took on new meaning when he met Beth Ross. The two shared an easy connection and built a life full of motion - camping trips, long drives, dirt-track races, and adventures in their motorhome. They shared a love of NASCAR so deep that even their black poodle, Junior, carried the name of their favorite driver. And then there was Calie, the stray cat who wandered into their lives in Shelby just days before their move to Florida, as if she knew they needed one more companion for the journey.
Florida became home because family mattered. Jim and Beth moved south to be near both sets of parents, choosing closeness over convenience, love over distance. Jim was an Ohio State fan through and through, even under the Florida sun, and he never lost his fascination with old cars, engines, and the thrill of a good race.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Beth; his children, Andy and Amy; his stepdaughter, Sheila; and his grandchildren - Harper, Jacob, Lillian, Eleanor, Henry, and Ellie - each one a piece of his heart. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
After an extended illness, Jim passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. His journey was marked by grit, loyalty, humor, and the simple joys that made life rich.
There will be no services, in accordance with Jim's wishes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
