In Loving Memory of Laura Svihula

December 23, 1952 – June 20, 2026

Laura Svihula, a proud Chicago native and longtime resident of the city, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 73. She relocated to Kissimmee, Florida, in 2022, where she became a beloved member of the community at Merrill Gardens at Solivita Marketplace. There, she followed her lifelong love of music by founding the Joyful Noise Choir, bringing together fellow residents through song and fellowship.

Laura was the cherished wife of the late Walter Svihula, a 27-year veteran of the Chicago Police Force, who preceded her in death in 2008. She was a devoted and loving mother to her son, Scott (Rhonda) Svihula, and her daughter, Tracie (Jim) Hogel. Her greatest joy was being a proud grandmother to Tyler, Madison, and Julia, who will forever treasure the memories they made with her.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Diane Starzynski, and her brother, Lee (Dawna) Ratti, as well as many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit.

Services: A celebration of Laura's life will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Merrill Gardens at 4602 Marigold Ave, Kissimmee, FL 34758. Additionally, a live stream option will be shared with family and friends.
