Margie "Nannie" Gables

Margie “Nannie” Gables, 87, of Davenport, Florida, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at AdventHealth Heart of Florida. She was born on July 24, 1939, in Jackson County, Alabama, to Tommy Newton and Sallie Lucille Cagle Gilley. Margie worked as a certified nursing assistant who served in both private and public health care. She was a member of the Assembly of God.

Margie loved spending time with her grandbabies and great-nieces. She was a person who enjoyed helping others and making people feel welcome. She loved “holding down the window” to watch birds and other wildlife at her home of over 44 years. She enjoyed reading and sewing until her eyesight would no longer permit. She especially enjoyed visits from her brother, sister, and grandson Dustin, as well as her niece Wendy, with whom she shared a special relationship. Jonathon, Aaliyah, and Araya brought so much joy to her life. Margie had a heart of gold and treated people like they were her own family. Those who knew her would describe her as a pistol—honest, blunt, caring and never one to hide where she stood. She was a hard worker and a self-reliant woman who could figure out just about any problem, whether it was building a porch or a roof or could tell you how to complete a project. She was forever the supervisor. Margie also loved traveling with her beloved fur babies, Sassy and Dakota.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Sallie; her husband, Buddy Edward Gables; her daughters, Terry Dubois and Tammy Lynn Wolfe; her only son, Daniel; her brother, J.L. Gilley; and her beloved fur babies, Sassy and Dakota. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Sheila Rutledge, Linda Rush, Marsha Stewart (Kelly) and Melinda “Mel” Gables (Pamela) her daughter like nieces, Clara, Sara and Tara; Her baby sister Bertha Matthews; and 75 grandchildren across 5 generations.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, for family and close friends who will gather to honor and celebrate her life.
