Hayden Thomas Bishop

Hayden Thomas Bishop, of Tucson, passed away from a heart attack on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at the age of 88. He was a resident of Crossroads Assisted Living. The family would like to thank the staff at Crossroads, especially Marcella, for showing love and kindness, treating him like a member of the family.

Hayden was born on May 18th, 1938, in Rio Hondo, Texas, to Elwood and Lucille Bishop. He was the only son and grew up with four sisters. He graduated from Lubbock High School and married Winelda June Shields the following year on July 5th, 1957.

He was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Post Office for several years. He subsequently entered the ministry and began a long career as a Minister in the Assemblies of God, pastoring churches in Texas, Kansas, and North Carolina. While living in North Carolina, he attended and graduated from Appalachian State University. Upon graduation, he operated a small construction company in the area. After retiring from construction, he moved to Arizona to spend his sunset years.

Hayden loved music, especially singing from the Old Testament. He enjoyed playing the organ in church, most often while accompanying Winelda on the piano.

He was predeceased by his parents, his two sisters - Francis Fischer and Janie Fitts, and his beloved wife, Winelda. He is survived by his three daughters, Diane (Mike) Stewart (of Michigan), Karen (Stand) Moehr (of Arizona), and Kathryn Bishop (Brian Allen) (of North Carolina); five grandchildren - Kristy Stewart (Hassan), Erik Stewart, Mark Stewart (Kelly), Angela Koder (Nick), and Randall Moehr (Erin); eight great-grandchildren - Kellen, Hayden, Jedidiah, Samuel, Joshua, Arabella, Yusuf, and Ayah; two sisters, Esther Bell (of Texas) and Carolyn (Robert) Cox (of Louisiana); and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

No funeral or memorial services are planned.
