Carolyn Moore Crabtree

Carolyn Shaw Moore Crabtree, died, Monday, September 21, 2026, in Greensboro, NC, two hours shy of her 91st birthday.

Carolyn was born on September 22, 1935, to Beulah Lanier Shaw and Willie T. Moore, the third (middle) of five children. “Shaw” as she was known to her family was a lifelong resident of Greensboro, attending Caesar Cone Elementary School for grades 1-7, Proximity Junior High for grades 8 and 9, and Greensboro Senior High for grades 10, 11, and 12. She graduated in 1954, and worked as a teletype operator for the telephone company for a few years. She got married, and the joy of her life, Lanier Carole was born in 1958. Later, she married Charles Wayne Crabtree on New Years Eve, 1960, who adopted Carole and formed a cohesive family. Later, Carolyn worked for 25 years at Carolina Fabric Label (later changed to US Label), making friends for a lifetime, and retiring in 2000. She enjoyed activities with American Legion Cone Post 386 with husband Charles, spending time with friends she’d grown up with all her life.

Carole married Bruce Winter in 1981, and gave her mom two wonderful grandsons, Caleb (Emily) and Jordan (Jennifer), who she adored. Over these last years she has also enjoyed eight beautiful great-grandchildren, Jackson, Noah, Elise, Ethan, Penelope, Clara, Vivian, Eliana. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, grandson Jordan, siblings Marjorie (JD) Walker and Billie (Wayne) Stewart, and brothers-in-law Brantley Edwards, Charles Barbour, and Mike Clayton. She is survived by her sisters Kay Edwards and Rebecca Barbour Clayton, daughter Carole (Bruce), grandson Caleb (Emily), granddaughter-in-law Jennifer, and a beautiful legacy of eight great-grandchildren.

Carolyn’s funeral will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home, Lambeth Chapel, 300 West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro. The family will receive from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM, prior to the service.
