Maureen Ann Riegel

Maureen Ann Riegel, age 74, of Colfax, NC passed away on September 5, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital, surrounded by her husband and loved ones.

Born on July 18, 1952, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Maureen was devoted to her family, dedicated to her work, and appreciated the simple pleasures that brought her happiness.

Family was an important part of Maureen’s life. She was the wife of Grant Riegel, the mother of Tanya Ahner-Mejia and Steven Ahner, the grandmother of Leo (Isaiah) Mejia, Ethan Moyer, and Isabella Ahner, and the sister of Theresa MacKay and Stephanie Long, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Hoffer; her father, John H. Hoffer, Sr.; her brother, John H. Hoffer, Jr.; and her sister, Margaret Hoffer.

She built her career as a legal secretary, working first with DeLong, Dry, Cianci, and Beltzner and later with VF Corporation, where she contributed her skill and professionalism for three decades.

Maureen’s interests included her stable of animals. She especially loved Penny and Pete, her horses, and Peanut, her Chihuahua. She enjoyed photography and creative expression, took pleasure in gardening, and followed football with particular enthusiasm for the Eagles, Panthers, and Steelers.

From Reading to Greensboro, Maureen’s life reflected the value of steady work, close family ties, and the everyday joys she treasured. Her memory will remain with those who knew her.
