William “Lee” Shelton

Jun 2, 1930 — Jul 9, 2026

William “Lee” Shelton (96) passed away at his home in Greensboro, NC on July 9, 2026.

Born on June 2, 1930 in Summerfield, NC, he was the oldest son of the late Reggie and Sallie Parrish Shelton. His childhood was greatly influenced by the Great Depression. These lean and hard times helped shape the person Lee became.

Lee said he was lucky to have had so many good jobs during his life. In his teens, he joined a blue grass band and played on many NC radio stations. He once said this was the best job ever had. Lee was also a long-haul truck driver in the early 50’s, before going to work as a press operator at the Container Corp in Greensboro. From there, Lee became a licensed beautician and opened Shelton’s Beauty Salon. In the 60’s, he became the manager of the original Green’s Supper Club and Oyster Bar, until it’s closing in 2001. Not one to stand still, Lee went to work part-time at Bur-Mil Golf course after his retirement from Green’s.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Genora Shelton; his brothers, Bobby, Billy, and Willie Shelton; and his sister, Virginia Powers.

He is survived by his brother, Henry Shelton; sister, Betty Permar; his two sons, Terry Shelton (Cheryl) and Roger Alan Shelton; grandchildren, Chris Shelton, Joe Shelton, and Christie Anderson; and several cherished great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson Lambeth Chapel, 300 W. Wendover Ave, Greensboro NC on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 10:00AM-10:50AM. A graveside funeral service will follow at 11:00AM at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N. O’Henry Blvd, Greensboro NC at the mausoleum.

It is with loving hearts and treasured memories we say farewell to Lee in this life. He will be deeply missed.
