Anthony “Tony” James Stone

Anthony "Tony" James Stone, 63, of Calabash passed away on September 4, 2026 under the care of Rock Hill Hospital in South Carolina. Born on December 31, 1962 in Tampa, Florida, he was the son of the late Melvin Stone and Helen (Gaines) Stone and husband to Julia Stone.

Tony’s life was defined by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to others. An avid sports enthusiast and passionate mentor to students, he served as an official with the Iwakuni Officials Association for 26 years, leaving a lasting impact on the young people he encouraged and guided.

Above all, Tony was a devoted follower of Christ. He lived out his faith through a life of selfless service and unconditional love as a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and role model. His faith shaped the way he cared for others and inspired him to lead by example, always giving of himself to those around him.

As a young adult, Tony began a decorated 22 year career in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country with honor and distinction. His military journey brought him full circle, beginning and ultimately concluding in Iwakuni, Japan, with his service also including operations during Desert Storm. Through every chapter of his life, Tony answered the call to serve his country, his faith, his family, and his community.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, Julia Stone, son Austin Stone, and his siblings Dwight Stone, Timothy Stone, and Cynthia Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Theresa Hollars and brother Steven Stone.

A graveside funeral service will be at Kernersville Moravian Church God’s Acre, 504 S Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284 on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Cheryl G. Cottingham officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Leukemia Research Foundation and Kernersville Moravian Church.
