Barbara Ann Chiles Frye
Nov 30, 1934 — Mar 24, 2026
Barbara Ann Chiles Frye, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was born on November 30, 1934, in Waynesboro, VA to the late Richard Floyd and Rosabell (Rosson) Chiles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred (Red) Mason Frye and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Ross.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Debbie) Frye of Ferrum, VA, and daughter Sandy (Ronnie) Oaten of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Amy (Brad) Myrick, Erin Frye, Shaunn (Hashi) Oaten and Lindsay (Chris) Audet; three step grandchildren, Conner (Casey) Hodges, Jonathan Jones, and Grace (Jacob) Smith; and 10 great-grandchildren, Belle, River, Stella, Riley A., McKayla, Ava, Jaxon, Riley M., Dylan, and Abram. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, best friends, and traveling partners, Betty Ross, Bonnie Bronner and Sue House.
Barbara had many jobs other than being wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorites were being a tour guide at Williamsburg and being a real estate agent. She also loved being involved in her church through the years, adopting families at Christmas (and encouraged her kids to do the same), playing bridge with her friends, traveling with her husband and sisters, and just being with family. She spent the last eight years living at River Landing Retirement Community in Colfax, NC and loved every minute of it.
We found this quote of hers in a memory book she wrote in, “I love the Lord with all my heart, and I hope to see all of you on the other side.”
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2:00pm at Oak Ridge Methodist Church, 2424 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NC.
