Nov 3, 1946 — Jun 2, 2026

Kernersville, NC – Mrs. Betty McAdoo, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on November 3, 1946, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, Betty was the eldest daughter of Jessie and Maggie Barnes.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, David Richard McAdoo; her children, Susan Elizabeth McAdoo and Michael William McAdoo; her granddaughter, Lillian Helen McAdoo; and her sister, Shirley Barnes Freeland.

Betty was a devoted and fiercely loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and strength touched everyone who knew her.

A retired school teacher with the Forsyth County School System, Betty dedicated her career to educating and encouraging generations of students. Beyond the classroom, she was deeply involved in her community and school life, serving as PTA President and Booster Club President at East Forsyth High School.

Faith and service were central to Betty’s life. She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted member of the choir and gave generously of her time and talents. Her commitment to helping others also included serving as President of the Lions Club and founding Mother’s Day Out, a church daycare program established during her years in Ohio.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their extended family for their love and support, and to Betty’s friends, neighbors, and church family for their kindness, prayers, and companionship.

Memorial services will be announced and held at Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 South Main Street, Kernersville, North Carolina, as well as at Betty’s family home in Pelican, Louisiana at a later date.
