David Scott Long

David Scott Long, 68, of Kernersville, passed away, Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A native of Forsyth County, he was born on January 8, 1958. He was a member of the graduating class of 1976 at East Forsyth High School. Scott worked for many years at Associated Posters in Kernersville and later worked for Carquest Auto Parts. He had a deep passion for music. Scott was gifted with the skills to play both the guitar and keyboard. Scott was even known to write some of his own music.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shelby Teague Neil.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, James R. “Jim” Neil; aunts, Brenda Teague Hicks and Diane Teague; cousins, Kim Teague Harris, Amy Hicks Linville, and Jane Williamson and family; and a host of beloved extended family members and friends.

The family will hold a private inurnment at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation for the love and compassionate care given to Scott during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott’s memory may be directed to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
