In Loving Memory

Joan McKeel Johnson of Kernersville passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born January 10, 1947, in Wilson County, North Carolina to Lorenzo Dow McKeel and Mary Anna Jones McKeel. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Ron Johnson, stepdaughters, Christi Lance (Josh) and Melanie Patella (Anthony) and grandchildren, Jacob, Anthony, Summer, and Natalie as well as her beloved dog Daisy.  In addition, she is survived by her nephew, David Hinson, and cousins, Gene, John, Glenn, Mike, and Timmy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers, James Hinson, George Hinson, and Ronald McKeel. 

Joan enjoyed playing bridge with friends, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and especially loved being at the beach.  She and her husband were members of the Main Street Methodist Church in Kernersville, and she was an active member of the Newcomers Club of Kernersville and enjoyed fundraising and fellowship with other members. Her most treasured roll in life was being married to the love of her life, Ronnie.

The family will receive friends a Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services on Friday March 6, 2026, from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Funeral Services will follow beginning at 2:00pm with Pastor Phil Hulen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Humane Society.
