John Robert Fisk

John Robert Fisk was born on August 18, 1950, to Dorothy M. Heaney and John Fisk. He left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 14, 2026.

He was raised by his mother, Dorothy, and his father, Thomas Heaney, in the Bronx and later in Mount Vernon, New York, with his brothers, Roger Fisk and Mark Heaney. For the past 12 years, he called Kernersville, North Carolina, home. He was a member of The Way Fellowship of the Triad, in Kernersville, where he was devoted to his church family and prison ministry.

John proudly served his country, and was wounded in action, as a member of the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 - 1970.

John was a long-distance coach driver for Leprechaun Lines for many years. He often shared stories of his adventures and of the many friends he made along the way. John loved his country, especially New York City, and loved getting on his microphone and sharing landmarks and stories with his passengers. He knew the best roads and places all over this country. He was our GPS and the Lord was his! John, will, no doubt, be a part of family stories for generations!

He is survived by his children, his son, Adam (Jacqueline) Fisk of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada and grandchildren Robin, Maryssa and Noah; his daughter April (Pete) Galicki of Highland, New York, and his grandchildren Katie and Ivy. He is survived by his former wife, Wendy Fisk of Highland, New York.

John is also survived by his wife, Christine Fisk, the love of his life. While their time together was much too short on this earth, they rely on the promise of an eternity together in heaven.

John leaves behind his "Brother Mark" and "Sister Donna" Heaney, of Kernersville, North Carolina, their children Alyssa (Jathen), Thomas, Mark Jr., Meghan, and Anthony as well as his great-nephew Finley and great-niece Josephine, who will dearly miss his Santa impressions!

Bro J/Uncle John's laughter and presence will be missed at every family function and in the small day to day moments that fill our lives. His tremendous faith, his contagious joy, his love for good food, good times and all things New York will remain in our best memories.

John's calling was to serve Jesus and share the Gospel and he fulfilled that calling with an unwavering faith and love for God's people. John was a simple man, a good man, who loved Jesus and was incredibly kind to all. He served the Lord loudly, proudly and with a little bit of New York swagger! John leaves a legacy of lives changed because he shared his faith.

John's family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the NC State Veterans Home in Kernersville, North Carolina, for assisting in walking John to heaven's door with compassion, honor, dignity, and respect.

In lieu of flowers, John has requested that his loved ones celebrate his life and memories of him. Preferably over a bagel and a "schmear".

John will be laid to rest, with military honors, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 12:30 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, North Carolina.

We take comfort in knowing that he is exactly where he wants to be in heaven, but we will miss him dearly until we meet again.
