Larry Larnell Woods
Feb 5, 1944 — Sep 17, 2026
Kernersville - Mr. Larry Larnell Woods, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2026 surrounded by family at his home. He was born in Durham County, NC on February 5, 1944 to the late Fred Harvey Woods and Mary Scalf Woods. Larry served his country in the Navy 1960-1968, He began working at Pilot Freight in 1970 and retired from Roadway in 2004. Larry loved classic cars, Bowman Gray Racing and westerns. But most of all, he loved his loving wife, Carol. They were married 63 years and Larry and Carol knew instantly they were going to marry one another the moment they met. As their family grew he never left "his girls" without saying "I love you" and a kiss goodbye.
He was preceded in death by a little angel, Ryan Lee Woods, one sister and two brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife Carol Miles Woods, two daughters, Renee Stroud (Steve), Elizabeth Kline (Tim), a bonus daughter, Jennifer Maynard (Milton) who loved Larry dearly as her father, seven grandchildren; Jacob Woods, TJ Kline (Mary), Lydia Stroud, Tyler Kline (Jaylynne), Landon Stroud (Zoe), MaKayla Webb, Landon Kline (Maddy) and two great grandchildren, Gracyn Kline and one baby boy on the way, one sister Brenda Jones and two brothers Doug and Donnie Woods, many special nieces and nephews that are very loved because they were children to Carol and Larry before they had their own.
A special "Thank You" to VA Kernersville for taking such good care of Larry through his dialysis treatments and a thank you to the volunteers, doctors, and to Jennifer, who went above and beyond her call of duty.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM-2:00PM at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Larry's life will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, September 20, 2026 with Rev. John Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Mt Gur Cemetery.
As we prepare to say goodbye, we want to honor one of his wishes. He always said when this day came he didn't want everyone dressed in black. He wanted everyone dressed in bright colors. So when we gather to celebrate his life please wear something bright to celebrate his honor.
