Mary Edna Goins Idol
Mar 12, 1945 — Sep 14, 2026
Mary Edna Goins Idol, 81, of Kernersville, died, Monday, September 14, 2026, under the care of Kerner Ridge Assisted Living. Born on March 12, 1945 in Stokes County, Mary was the daughter of the late James Donis Goins and Mary Vivian Goins. She was married to George Ralph Idol, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2011.
Mary Edna was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was well-known for a kind spirit, a strong sense of responsibility, and a deep love for her family. These qualities remained constant throughout her life rooted in faith, service, and strength. She was a dedicated member of her community and worked in local restaurants for over 40 years creating a deep sense of familiarity with the community. She was a great cook and brought others together through her home-cooked meals. She taught her grandchildren how to sew and let them enjoy their farm in the playhouse they built, along with swings, riding four-wheelers, and loving on all the animals. These moments became the foundation of cherished memories that will last forever.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa Idol Paloumbas and husband, George, of Kernersville; son, George Ralph Idol, Jr. of Kernersville; grandchildren, Maria Paloumbas Shipman and husband, Johnny, Taylor Paloumbas Sgroi and husband, Samuel, and Trinity Idol and husband, Isacc Hutchins; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Natalie, Sophia, Abigail, Nellie, and Laine; and a host of extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Goins; and sisters, Cecelia Donathan and Vernice Meadows.
A private graveside service was held at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Kerner Ridge Assisted Living for their loving and compassionate care of their mother.
