Rebecca "Becky" Ann Cook Smith

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Cook Smith, 82, of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026.

Becky was born on October 23, 1943, to the late Tom and Ora Cook. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great source of love and strength to her family.

She was married for 58 years to her beloved husband, Edward B. Smith. Together, they built a life centered on family and enduring love. Becky was a devoted and caring mother to her son, Matthew B. Smith, and a loving mother-in-law to Lesa Smith.

She found her greatest joy in her role as “Grammy,” cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren, Jake D. Smith and Peyton E. Smith (Noah Rush). She was preceded in death by her cherished granddaughter, Jillian Smith.

Becky was also preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ora Cook, and her siblings, Tommy Cook (survived by wife Jane Cook), Bill Matthews (Faye Matthews), and Julia Stewart (Neal Pardue).

In addition to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, she is survived by her niece, Chris Bunce (Rob Bunce); her nephews, Dean Stewart (Kimberly Stewart); Phil Matthews (Linda Matthews ) and extended family and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Becky will be remembered as a devoted and nurturing mother and grandmother who poured her heart into her family. She had a love for reading and enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines and always bringing strength and love to her family and friends. In her final wishes, she encouraged her loved ones not to think of her passing as a bed of death, but as a bed of life. Ever mindful of others, she sought to leave behind not only cherished memories, but also meaningful lessons and guidance to help those she loved—and all who knew her—live fuller, happy lives.

She shared this message as a lasting gift: “Give my soul to God. If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or a kind word to someone who needs you.”

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit endures in the values she instilled, the wisdom she shared, and the compassion she inspired. Her legacy will live on through every act of kindness carried forward in her name
