Michael Gregory Block Sr., also known as Mike, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He was 77 years old.
Born on April 13, 1948, in North Dakota to William and Margaret Block, Mike spent his formative years in Arlington, Virginia. He attended Christ church School for high school and went on to earn his degree in Political Science from the University of Virginia, where he established many lifelong friendships.
Mike built a successful career in banking and the financial industry, a field he remained dedicated to throughout his life. Known for his sharp intellect and passion for learning, he was a lifelong reader with a deep love of history and all things sports-related.
On December 4, 1976, Mike and Susan were married in Olney, Maryland. Together, they built a life full of love and family.. Later in life, his greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren. He cherished time spent during holidays and special occasions surrounded by his family.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Susan; his three children, Katie (Trey), Whitney, and Michael Jr.; and his cherished grandchildren, Lucas, Carter, and Emily. He is also survived by his brother, Tom. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret, and his brother, Preston.
In July of 2025, Mike was hospitalized and, despite his resilience and strength, he was unable to overcome his health challenges.
The family is planning a private celebration of life at a later date to honor Mike’s memory.
He will be remembered for his warm heart, sharp mind, and deep love for his family. Mike’s legacy lives on in the lives of those who loved him.
