Susanna Kay Byrns

August 26, 1959 — May 16, 2026

Beloved wife and mother, Susanna (Sue) Kay Byrns, passed away after a 2-year battle with breast cancer on May 16, 2026 in Franktown, Colorado surrounded by her husband and five children.

Sue was born on August 26, 1959, in Okinawa, Japan, to John and Judy Henry (Akiko Kinjo). She moved to the United States when she was twelve and later married and had her first three children, Kristopher, Kelly and Katie. Later, she met her soulmate and love of her life, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Byrns. They married on November 20, 1997, and welcomed their children Austin and Brianna. They spent many holidays and summers traveling as a family and hosting family gatherings at their home. She spent much of her time in her garden, with her dogs, cats, chickens and ducks and cheering on her grandchildren in sports and their life pursuits.

Sue was a woman whose kindness, strength, and creativity shaped every life she touched. She had a gift for nurturing—whether tending her garden, caring for her animals, or supporting the family she loved so deeply. Her home and her heart were always open. She gave generously, listened fully, and created beauty in ways both quiet and profound. Her artistic spirit showed up in everything she did, from the way she arranged a bouquet, designed and decorated her home, to the way she made others feel seen and valued. The ocean brought her peace, a place where she felt connected to something larger and steady. That same calm strength lived in her—guiding her through challenges with grace and resilience. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and gentle wisdom. Those who knew her will carry her warmth with them always.

Sue is survived by her husband, Tony and children, Kristopher (Sammi), Kelly, Katie (Burton), Austin and Brianna (Edgardo); grandchildren, Adria, Krischtian, Bradley, Zoey, Dresden and Amaya; Great grandson, Carter; her sister, Kathy Malone and niece, Nikki, nephews Patrick and David, and her half-sister, Nancy. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Michael, nephew Kinjo and half-brothers John and Richard.

A memorial service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery 880 E Wolfensberger Road in Castle Rock on Saturday, May 23rd, at 11 a.m. The family invites extended family and friends to share memories and celebrate her life following the services at a reception at Tony and Sue's home.
