Thomas William Wohrley

Thomas William Wohrley, 70, passed away on July 10, 2026, in Cambridge, Illinois, while visiting the place where his story began. Born on March 13, 1956, in Moline, Illinois, Tom lived a life defined by unwavering faith, deep love for his family, joyful adventure, reading, purposeful work, and an enduring commitment to helping others become the people God created them to be.

Tom graduated from Cambridge High School, where he participated in band, track, football and basketball before continuing both his education and his love of the game at Blackburn College. His professional career led him into the insurance industry, where he worked for Royal, Bartlett Agency, Lohman Brothers, and eventually Allstate Insurance. For the past eleven years, Tom owned and operated his own Allstate agency. While Tom was grateful for a successful career, one of his greatest joys was building the family business alongside his son Neil. In time, Rob and Emily joined the agency as well, and he found immense joy in seeing all three of his children working together in the office—a legacy that brought him tremendous joy. More than any title or accomplishment, Tom cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He shared an extraordinary marriage with his beloved wife, Marta. They were truly best friends who approached life hand in hand, always planning the next adventure and encouraging one another to embrace every opportunity God placed before them. Tom adored Marta, and anyone who spent time with him knew it. His love and admiration for her were evident in both his words and his actions.

Tom believed life was meant to be fully lived. He found joy in God's creation and was most at home outdoors—hiking mountain trails, camping, spending time at the tree farm and exploring the beauty of America's national parks. He completed the Camino de Santiago in Spain with Marta and they also hiked Salkantay Pass in Peru. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the Colorado Trail with his son, Rob, a journey that reflected both his perseverance and his love of sharing meaningful experiences with those he loved. Tom enjoyed running and participating in local races, even completing the Chicago Marathon. Whether traveling the world, returning each year to the family's Illinois farm, or simply spending time around a campfire with family, Tom treasured creating memories that would last a lifetime.

His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation upon which every part of his life was built. Tom faithfully served wherever God called him. While living in East Moline, Illinois, he was actively involved in his church and the Walk to Emmaus community. After moving to Parker, Colorado, he became a devoted member of Parker Evangelical Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, investing in the marriage ministry alongside Marta, men’s mentoring, participating in mission trips to Haiti, and most recently completing and serving in leadership with the Colson Fellows Program. His faith was not something he simply professed—it was something he practiced daily through prayer, generosity, humility, and service.

Tom had a unique gift for seeing potential in people. He encouraged others to dream bigger, pursue meaningful goals, and never stop learning. An avid reader and lifelong learner, he believed growth was a lifelong pursuit. Whether mentoring a colleague, encouraging a friend, or cheering on his children and grandchildren, Tom consistently invested in others with wisdom, patience, and genuine interest. He lived with intentionality, choosing to build people up, celebrate their successes, and quietly help them overcome challenges.

Those who knew Tom will remember his infectious joy, steady integrity, adventurous spirit, love of books and generous heart. He freely gave his time, talents, and resources, always seeking ways to bless others. He loved deeply, laughed often, and made those around him feel seen, valued, and encouraged. His life was a beautiful reflection of his desire to love God wholeheartedly and love others well.

Tom is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Marta Wohrley; his children, Emily (Joshua) Stokes, Robert Wohrley, and Neil (Anna) Wohrley; his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin, Dylan, Ada, and Forrest; his siblings, Jim Wohrley (Karen) and Cathy (Mark) Koch; along with many extended family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and fellow believers whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret Wohrley.

Though Tom's earthly journey has ended, the legacy he leaves behind continues in the faith he lived, the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he encouraged along the way. He will be remembered as a man who loved God with all his heart, embraced every season of life with gratitude and purpose, and faithfully pointed others toward hope in Christ. His greatest desire was not simply to live a successful life, but a faithful one—and in that, he leaves an example that will continue to inspire generations to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Parker Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Denver Rescue Mission, the Colorado Trail Foundation, or the PEPC Missions Fund.
