Dennis Fred Blankenburg
Dec 9, 1939 — Jan 15, 2026
Dennis Fred Blankenburg was born December 9, 1939, in Le Mars, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm in Hinton, Iowa, and graduated from Hinton High School. He met Garnet Junck at age 15 and married her in 1959, and loved each other beautifully for 66 years!
They had two children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Denny and Garnet moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where Denny worked as a truck driver for many years for American Freight Ways, and then as a sales manager for Consolidated Freight Ways until his retirement.
They moved to Arizona in 2005, and have spent winters in the sunshine. Summers were spent at the lake in Minnesota for many years, and have a home in Sioux City. Denny lived his dash in a big way! He was an avid golfer, a bowler with 37 years in the National Bowling Tournament, he was named an All-American in softball as a catcher, and he drove stock cars. He loved life, his family, and friends. He was a remarkable and kind human. H will be missed by everyone that knew him as this dash came to an end January 15, 2026, as he left us for his eternal home.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ralph (Stubb) and Edna (Clement) Blankenburg; and his sister-in-law, Jan Blankenburg.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 66 years, Garnet Blankenburg; his brother, Wendell Blankenburg, and two nieces, Beth Jensen and Angie McGinnis; his daughter, Colleen Lang; his son, Curtis (LeAnn) Blankenburg; his three grandchildren, Megan Lang, Kyle (Beth) Blankenburg, Kari (Curtis) Epling; and his six great-grandchildren, Zoe, Mia, Amy, Jace, Keira, and Connor.
A Memorial Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 S. Lakeport Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51106, on February 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a luncheon and fellowship with family after service.
