Edwin Cecil Waldo Sr.

Edwin Cecil Waldo, 83, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away at home on August 26, 2024, with his wife Linda by his side, and the rest of his family surrounding him.

Ed was born and raised in Illinois but left home at age 17 to join the U.S. Army to earn money to send home to his mom and siblings. However, his service grew into what would become a lifelong point of pride when he became a member the elite All American 82nd Airborne Division. From there, Ed continued to build a lifetime of memories – and actual buildings! Ed spent over 40 years as a carpenter and contractor and built many homes and commercial buildings in Illinois and California, including his own home with Linda in California.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, watching the Cubs and Diamondbacks, and  being “on the road again” with his wife Linda and their RV up to the mountains. Ed’s greatest passion was golfing. Arizona retirement gave him the opportunity to get out on the green at least 3 times a week, and with 13 holes-in-one, he never tired of the game.

Finally, Ed built lasting relationships. He never hesitated to say hello to a stranger, strike up a conversation with a neighbor, and spend quality time with family and friends. He started a family with his first wife, Diana, and had 3 children (which later brought him 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren). Throughout his life, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Most of all, he was a loving husband to his wife, Linda. Their 42 years together were full of time well spent with family, friends, travel, happy hours, and love.

Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy (Scott), and his sisters, Joy and Bobbi. He is survived by his wife, Linda, his son, Bud, his daughter Vicki (Keith), his brothers Terry (Semo), Chris, and Keith, and his sister, Barbara (Gary). We know he will always be watching down on us from a fairway in Heaven.
