L. Arlene Hill

Lois Arlene Bacon (Arlene) was born on Christmas Day, 12/25/1936 to W.

Lawrence and Erma M. Bacon in a small-town hospital in Augusta, Illinois. She was raised on the family farm a few miles east of town and attended a one-room school near their home. She began learning piano as a child and played classical and popular songs for most of her life. She attended Augusta High School from 1951 to 1955, where she was very active in school activities, then returned to work as school secretary in 1957 - 1958. In 1957 she married Glen R. Hill of Kellerville, Illinois and they bought a small house in Augusta. Arlene gave birth to two sons, Gary and Robert in 1959 and 1961. In the fall of 1963 the family moved first to Tucson, Arizona and then to Phoenix. In 1971, Arlene took employment with the Revco drugstore chain where she operated computer equipment in their local Glendale office. In 1984, Arlene took flying lessons in a small single-engine plane they had purchased. Later that year, Arlene and her husband moved to Riverdale, Georgia just south of Atlanta where her husband was employed by Northwest Airlines at the Atlanta airport. Arlene attended Georgia State University majoring in Accounting, after which she worked several years as an accountant and tax preparer. She later worked at a Target store food court, having grown tired of accounting. Arlene and Glen remained in Riverdale until Glen's retirement from the airlines in 1997. They returned to their Phoenix home until 2001 when they moved to Sun City, Arizona.

Arlene was preceded in death by her sister, Erma Lee Bacon (Gills) of Sciota, Illinois.

Arlene is survived by her husband Glen, her sons Gary and Robert, her niece Karen Irwin (spouse Gary) and two nephews Kendall and Kenneth.

Arlene had 4 grandchildren: Phillip Hill (spouse Brittney}, Andrea Murphy (spouse Mick), Austin Hill and Emma Hill as well as 8

great-grandchildren: Lily and Jade Van Note; Ayerton, Ava, Dorothy, Elizabeth Murphy; Grayson and Rhett Hill.

She had a great niece Jessica Rios (spouse Matt) and a great-great niece Rachel Irwin-Rios.

Arlene passed away 8/17/2026 due to complications from hip fracture surgery after a fall.

Family and friends are invited to attend an informal gathering to honor Arlene from 10am to 12pm, with a prayer service starting at 10:30am on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Regency Mortuary, 9850 W Thunderbird Blvd, Sun City, Arizona.
