Roberta Josepha Zrna
Jul 8, 1938 — Aug 23, 2025
Roberta Josepha Zrna, 87, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025. Born on July 8, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, Roberta lived a rich full life being a woman of many talents and endless energy, she was a flight instructor, a skilled actor, gymnast, jazzercise instructor, and a dedicated nurse. Her intelligence and wit made every conversation a memorable exchange -- she could challenge, and entertain all at once.
Roberta was a proud and compassionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, volunteering regularly to support and uplift others. As a transgender woman, she found strength in authenticity and encouraged others to embrace their truth. Her life stood as a testament to resilience and determination.
Outside her advocacy, Roberta loved simple joys -- riding her bicycle through the neighborhood and swimming laps in the park pool with her signature purple noodle. She is survived by her children: Stephanie, Kimberly, Pam, John, Claudia, and Bobbie.
No public service will be held, but Roberta's light continues to shine in the lives she touched.
Her reflections on gender and identity, written in her own words, express her journey best: embracing one's true self brings peace and wholeness - never perfection, but something beautifully real.
