In Loving Memory of Corrine Romero

Corrine "Mamacita"/"Grandma" Romero, 99, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at her home on July 21, 2026, she was surrounded by love, with her devoted daughter Lori and her faithful caregiver by her side.

Born on May 7, 1927, to Antonio Sr. Romero and Cleofes Gonzales, who preceded her in death. Corrine lived through nearly a century of remarkable change.

She was raised in Glorieta during a time of horse-drawn wagons, saddle horses, and gardens that provided food for the family. She often shared stories of those simpler days and the values of hard work, faith, and family that shaped her life. During World War II, she worked as a waitress, proudly doing her part during an important time in our nation's history.

Above all else, Corrine was a loving mother whose family was the center of her life. She is survived by her children: Viola Poss, David Romero, Leroy Romero, Kathy Montoya, Danny Gallegos (wife Bonnie), Lorenzo Gallegos (wife Camille), Frank Gallegos (wife Darlene), and Lori Gallegos.

She was welcomed into eternal rest by her beloved sons Albert, Johnny, Eugene, Joseph, and Andy.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandchildren Renee, Vicente, Leroy Jr., Marcos, and Carlos, as well as all of her brothers and sisters: Tony, Lupe, Natividad, Lucy, and Romacita.

Her love lives on through 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren, each one a treasured part of her lasting legacy.

For the past 21 years, Corrine made her home with her daughter Lori, who lovingly cared for her with unwavering devotion. Their bond was one of deep love, friendship, and countless cherished memories. Together they enjoyed visiting casinos, selling their handmade crafts at craft shows, roasting chile, laughing, camping, fishing, dancing, and simply spending time together. Those moments brought Corrine great happiness.

She also adored her faithful dog, Flaco, whose playful companionship brought her comfort, joy, and many smiles.

Corrine will be remembered for her strength, warm heart, and unconditional love for her family. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and taught those around her the importance of perseverance, kindness, and keeping family close. Her life was a beautiful example of resilience, faith, and enduring love. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on through the generations of her family.

One of our fondest memories will always be hearing her say, "This old gray mare ain't what she used to be."

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico (11 College Ave, Santa Fe NM 87508). The Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass and a reception. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Corrine's life, share memories, and honor the remarkable woman who meant so much to so many.

Her remains will be laid to rest at a future date.

Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her love will remain with us always. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff, caregivers, and doctors who provided such devoted care to Corrine and unwavering support to her family.

Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great-Great-Grandma, your love was the greatest gift you gave us. Until we meet again, may you rest in God's eternal peace.
