Helen Otero

Helen Otero born on September 27, 1952 in Cubero, New Mexico and resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico sadly passed away on August 22, 2026 at the age of 73 with her family by her side.

Helen was known for her strength, her unconditional love and guidance. Her one joy came from the moments spent with her family. Sharing her childhood with 4 sisters and 7 brothers-that deep sense of family stayed with her for her entire life. She loved sharing stories, jokes and endless laughter together. Helen loved music, she cherished her old record collection, frequently playing her albums and filling the room with nostalgia and laughter. At family get-togethers she didn’t hesitate to get up and dance as long as the right beat and song was playing.

Helen was the definition of hardworking, never slowing down when it came to taking care of her family. She approached life with determination and resilience. She poured that same hard work into raising her family, creating a warm, steady foundation. Helen’s love language was cooking for her loved ones, no matter how little or much she had.

Among all of her life’s achievements, Helen’s greatest source of pride and joy was her role as a mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was a safe haven where the door was always open and anyone who walked through felt instantly loved, protected and at ease.

Helen is survived by her daughter Kim Chavez and wife Roberta. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Marissa Baca husband Lawrence, EJ Vargas, Gabriel Chavez and Syneca and AJ. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Jude Baca and Jayden Vargas. She is also survived by remaining siblings; Lorraine, Chapo, Ricky, Cruz, Danny, Dino and Veronica as well as many nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Pallbearers will be Kim Chavez, Victor Montoya, Marissa Baca, EJ Vargas, Gabriel Chavez, Jude Baca and Jayden Vargas.

Services for Helen Otero will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Rosary will begin at 8:15 AM at Holy Family Church, located at 562 Artisco Dr. SW.
