Jon Daryl Hanna

Feb 21, 1964 — Aug 6, 2026

Jon Daryl Hanna was born on February 21, 1964, in Forest City, Iowa, and passed away on August 6, 2026, with his family by his side, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 62.

He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Carolyn Hanna of Forest City, Iowa, sister Vicky Dalby of Albuquerque, New Mexico and brother Tim (Shelly) Hanna of Swisher, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews as well as the love of his life, Yvette and her family Yvonne, Tiffany and Michael Gallegos of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jon has been a 45+ year Special Olympics athlete as he started competing as a middle schooler in Iowa. As of his passing, he played softball, basketball, volleyball, poly hockey and track and field with Special Olympics New Mexico.

Jon was a 15-year resident of Albuquerque and had just passed as many years as a dedicated employee of Adelante, working as a custodian at the Albuquerque Police Department Headquarters. Due to his strong work ethic and friendly, outgoing nature, Jon forged many positive relationships with the job coaches and administrators at Adelante as well as with officers and staff at APD.

Jon also filled up his social calendar two-stepping and tipping his hat at Merrymakers dances, calling bingo for what has posthumously continued and is now called “Cowboy Jon’s Bingo-rama”, spending time playing games with his sister, Vicky, niece, Stacey, and great-niece, Austyn, and attending church and social events with the Gallegos family and his many friends-especially Mike and Cecil McKernan.

Jon always had a smile for everyone and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He selflessly dedicated his time to the Roadrunner Food Bank sorting and stocking.

To honor Jon’s most giving nature, his family proudly granted his final wish to be an organ donor, by sharing the gift of life with those in need.

Memorial Service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:30 AM in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jon will be laid to rest in the city of which he was born with inurnment at Madison Township Cemetery. Services prior to inurnment will be held at Schott Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:30 AM in Forest City, Iowa.
