Mary Lawton-Bibeau

Mary Lawton-Bibeau, age 76, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on October 11, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN, to Stanley and Elizabeth Lawton, she was the second of three children.

After a fulfilling career, Mary retired from the University of New Mexico where she worked as an academic advisor. Her love of truly getting to know people helped her excel at engaging college students and finding them the perfect class. She had a gift of talking to people and a genuine desire to hear their stories.

Retirement did not slow Mary down. She continued her joy of working with people by volunteering and participating in the Albuquerque Oasis Senior Center community, where she would lead book clubs, teach and take classes, and tutor children. She was a woman of immense curiosity, an avid reader, and the undisputed champion of the nightly family Jeopardy competition.

She is survived by her husband, David Bibeau; her son, Patrick Fisk (Angelica); stepchildren: David Bibeau (Ruth), Tammy Comerci (Dan), and Thomas Bibeau; nine step-grandchildren; and her two brothers, Roger Lawton (Gee) and David Lawton (Alice). Her family will deeply miss her wit, sense of humor, and trivia knowledge.

Services will be held on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church (Albuquerque, NM). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Albuquerque Oasis (Older Adult Enrichment Programs).
