Matthew L. Montoya

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Son, and Friend was taken home with our Lord on February 21, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on November 18, 1950, in Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Matthew was a fan of the Dodgers and loved to play baseball, he worked at Dessert Paper & Envelope for 36 years where he became Vice-President.  While serving in the Army, he received the National Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct medal, he was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post 13.

To all who knew him he had a kind, compassionate, generous spirit, and will be greatly missed.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kathyrine Kloeppel Montoya who took care of him to the very end, son Jacob, daughters Rhonda Ann, Leah and son-in-law Chris Ortega, 5 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.  Sisters, Josie Chavez; Ceclia Montoya; Adella Maestas. Brothers, Lawarance Montoya and wife Cindy; Earnest Montoya; Alfred Montoya and wife Linda; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother Petrita Kline Montoya, Father Romolo Montoya, and his son Matthew Jr.

Rosary and Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Peralta, New Mexico, 3674 NM-47 on April 25, 2026 at 11:00 am with the reception following.  He will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501 on Monday April 27, 2026 at 12:30 pm.
