Obituary

Robert Daniel “Danny” Velasco was born on September 11, 1944, in Douglas, Arizona, to Pablo and Sarah Velasco, the second of their six children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Velasco, and his dearly beloved wife, Margarita Velasco. He was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. He is survived by his daughters, Anna Larisa Fox and her husband Brian Fox, Desiree Cristina Zavala, and her husband Miguel Zavala, his son, Jaime Xavier Velasco, and his grandchildren Daniel and Paris Velasco, and Amarilis and Santiago Zavala.

Robert worked as a System’s Analyst at the University of Arizona for over 3 decades. He is the author of the memoir, Meet Me at the All-Star Club, which he self-published through Barnes and Noble Press, in 2022. He honorably served his country as a firefighter while in the Arizona Air National Guard and was awarded the Airman’s Medal for Heroism when he saved the life of a fellow guardsman in 1966.

Robert was a loving and devoted family man, who adored his wife, children and grandchildren, loved his extended family, and enjoyed life-long relationships with his friends. He was an accomplished musician with a particular fondness for playing Mexican boleros on the piano, an avid photographer, a nature lover, world-traveler, who maintained a deep appreciation for fine art, and was fond of reading, cooking and staying abreast of current events. He was a fervent Catholic with a deep devotion for the Virgin of Guadalupe, a dog lover, and believer in aliens. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
