Robert W. Whitmire

Robert W. Whitmire passed quietly at his home in Placitas NM September 24, 2026. Born and raised in Deming NM and following years spent in Phoenix AZ, Portland OR and southern California, Bob was able to conjure a transfer back to his beloved NM in 1985. His proudest achievements throughout a career specializing in operations management involved finding and developing talent within his employees and witnessing their own careers flourish. Bob led by example and was respected and appreciated by customers and employees alike.

Besides the love of his life and best friend, Jane Whitmire, Bob treasured his family, friends, the many dogs with whom he shared countless miles of hiking trails over the years, and the cats who shared his lap. He loved to travel, whether it was day trips exploring the scenic highways and byways of Oregon or NM, or international adventures enjoying art museums and sidewalk cafes. Concerts and music, and evenings of cards, laughter and stories with friends were favorite pastimes.

Bob will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, encyclopedic knowledge of current events, animated storytelling, curiosity about the world, how he lovingly nurtured and encouraged his nieces and nephews, and the strength, courage and determination with which he fought his final battles.
