Thomas "Bubba" Earl Garringer, Sr.

Thomas “Tom” Earl Garringer, Sr., of Rio Rancho, NM, formerly of Johnson City, NY, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 17, 2026, following a lengthy illness. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Born September 18, 1946, in Binghamton, NY, he was affectionately known to his family as “Bubba.” 

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Virginia “Ginny” Garringer; his daughter Diana Garringer; and his son Patrick (Carolann) Garringer, all of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Amber (Adam) Palmer of Rio Rancho, NM; Alan Finch of Luxemburg, WI; Stefanie Sloma-Carlston of Rio Rancho, NM; Brittney (Daniel) Vigil of Rio Rancho, NM; Kelly Garringer and Brian Garringer, both of Binghamton, NY; Samantha (Will) Reynolds and Matthew (Zarah) Garringer, both of Rio Rancho, NM. He leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren: Adalyne “Addie,” Emma, Frankie, Charlotte, Aaron, Savannah, Leah, Riley, Favian, Dj, and Halo, well as his Uncle Freas Garringer, great-nieces and nephews Jimmy Garringer, Mary Collins and Kent Garringer, and several extended family members. 

Also surviving are close family friends Amanda (Christopher) Rozelle, their son John Rozelle, and Vincent “Vince” Carrillo, all of Rio Rancho, NM, along with many cherished friends and neighbors. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth “Chowie” Garringer; his brothers Mark, Paul, and Ronald Garringer; and his youngest son, Thomas Earl Garringer, Jr. 

Tom attended Union-Endicott schools in Endicott, NY, and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1963 at the age of 17, serving until his discharge in 1967. After his military service, he worked as a skilled laborer, dedicating many years to Murphy’s Gravel, Endicott Forging, and IBM. In 2002, Tomand his family relocated to Rio Rancho, NM, where he earned his electrician’s apprenticeship and later enjoyed a well-deserved retirement. Tom lived a life full of passion and purpose. An avid hunter, he looked forward to elk season every year. He loved to fish, took great pride in caring for his home and lawn, and treasured time spent withhis family—especially his great-granddaughters. Known for his unwavering work ethic, strength, anddetermination, Tom was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. His generosity, resilience, and quiet kindness will remain unmatched in the hearts of those who loved him.

 A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Bosque Trails Hospice for the exceptional care provided during Tom’s final days. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
