Tony Garcia Jr.

Nov 2, 1943 — Aug 27, 2026

Tony Garcia, born on November 2, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, lived a life centered around family, hard work, and the people he loved. He passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque on August 27, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by his family.

As a young man, Tony moved to California, where he and his wife, Margaret, built their life together and raised their family in Long Beach. He worked for many years at General Motors before retiring. In 1995, Tony and Margaret returned to New Mexico, where he later worked for Rio Rancho Public Schools until his second retirement.

Tony was a kind and loving man with a good heart, and his family was always his greatest priority. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who wanted the best for those he loved. Tony had a lifelong love of classic cars and took great pride in keeping his own cars spotless. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, the ocean, New Mexico chile, and, of course, a good trip to the casino. He made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his kindness, his gentle nature, and the love he gave his family throughout his life.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Tony Garcia and Aurora Fresquez; his sister, Judy Sedillo; and his brother, Leroy Esquibel.

He is survived by Margaret Garcia, his loving wife of 60 years; his daughters, Michelle Garcia and Yvonne Cortes (Rene Cortes); his grandchildren, Amanda Fanning (Jonathan Lawrence), Andrew Fanning (Angel Ward), Alexia, and Nikolas; his great-grandchildren, Lucy, Oliver, Brynn, and Bristol; and his sisters, Juanita Martinez, Dorothy Carley, Irene Esquibel, and Elizabeth Fresquez.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a lunch reception at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Tony’s memory may make a donation Blood Cancer United.
