Albert Abenicio Montoya
Oct 6, 1935 — Aug 29, 2026
Albert Abenicio Montoya went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
Albert was born on October 6, 1935, in Des Moines, New Mexico, to Hilaro and Emma Montoya. As a young man, Albert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1961.
Following his military service, Albert built a long and hardworking career in construction, eventually becoming a construction supervisor. His work took him throughout the beautiful state of New Mexico. In 1975, Albert and his family made Los Lunas their home, where he remained until his retirement in 2002.
Albert was a man of many talents and never one to sit still for long. In addition to his career in construction, he enjoyed working in his upholstery business and had a gift for creating and repairing things with his hands. He also loved welding, playing his guitar, and singing. His music, his craftsmanship, and the many things he created throughout his life will remain treasured memories for those who knew and loved him.
Above all else, Albert’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished the time he spent with those he loved, and the life he built was centered around his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love, strength, stories, music, and presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the lessons he passed down will continue to live on through generations of his family.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Hilaro and Emma Montoya; his three brothers, Louie, Carlos, and Leroy; his sister, Esther; his eldest son, Eugene; and his daughter-in-law, Colleen Montoya.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Teofila “Bebe” Suazo Montoya; his daughter Martha and son-in-law Clayton Thomas; his daughter Margaret and son-in-law Felix Baca; and his son Albert and daughter-in-law Cindy Montoya II.
Albert was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Leroy Montoya II, Charity Hernandez, Patrick Thomas II, Christopher Thomas, Nicole Douglas, Angelica Padilla, Amanda Baca, Eric Baca, and Albert Montoya III. He was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom added immeasurable joy to his life.
Albert leaves behind a beautiful legacy—a life built through faith, hard work, devotion, music, laughter, and an enduring love for his family. Although his absence will be deeply felt, those who loved him will carry a part of him with them always.
Services for Albert will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, New Mexico. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
