Delphie "Shorty" DeAnda

Del “Shorty” DeAnda, a woman whose life was defined by strength, service, and love, will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

A lifelong resident of Los Lunas, Del worked for 25 years as a nighttime supervisor at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School.

After “retiring,” Del became a firefighter and EMT and later worked for the Office of the Medical Examiner. Del also joined the Honor Guard, further dedicating her life to serving others with courage, loyalty, and heart.

Affectionately known as “Shorty,” a nickname that began during her early school years in the Girls Athletic Association while running track, Del later went on to play softball for many seasons. Through the years, she created countless lasting memories with friends, teammates, and family.

Del is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Matt); her grandchildren, Nathan and Ryan (Dominique); her great-grandson; her brothers, Frank (Cindy), Boston (Terri), David (Kathy), James (Maria), and Fred (Mari); and her sister, Gloria. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Del was preceded in death by her father, Frank Gurule; her mother, Dolores A. Gurule; her sister, Emily Baca; her granddaughter-in-law, Christine Garcia; and her lifelong friend, David DeAnda.

As someone we could always count on, Del will be remembered with tremendous love and pride. Her stories will continue to be shared by those who knew her, loved her, and were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.

Rest peacefully, Del. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will live on forever.
